We have the BEST snow play conditions of the season.  In the past week we have received up to 24 inches of snow in the snow play areas and it has been cold.  This morning it is 19 as I write this.  So this has keep the snow very fresh and soft.  Also since the holidays are over now the crowds are gone so you will have the whole area to yourself.  So take a day off, a pull the kids out of school and come on up and make snow angles have a snow ball fight and just have a great day in the snow with your family.

It is a beautiful day.  New snow 12-14 inches in the snow play areas blue sky, with light wind but it is cold.  The roads are open and clear with no restrictions.  The only problem you will have today is the traffic as everybody else what to be here today too.  If your are not here early in the morning you might want to try after 1pm as the traffic is less then.

We received about another 12 inches of snow last night.  So the snow play should be great for a while.  There is 15to 24 inches of snow in the snow play areas.  This morning tire chain and or 4 wd are required on all roads.  The weather is very nice blue sky and temp currently in Wrightwood is 17.  The snow we received last night was a “very dry snow” because it was so cold.  This type of snow is not the norm here it is more like a Utah snow.  With the amount of snow we have gotten in the past few days,the temp being cold and with the weather service calling for a storm latter this week snow play conditions should stay good for sometime.

We received 2-3 inches of snow yesterday in the snow play areas making conditions the best we have seen in a couple of weeks.  Also the roads are open with no controls.  The weather service is calling for 4-6 inches of snow on friday night saturday during the day.  So now is the time to come up the weather is clear blue sky with the high temp to be in the low 30 dress warmly.

Happy Valentine’s Day and a extra day off for some. 

We still have some areas for sledding and playing in the snow.  We have not had any new snow for about 3 weeks so the snow is very spring like hard in the morning and softening in the afternoon.  There is some dirt showing but I was up in the play areas and people are still having fun.  The weather service is calling for a storm cycle starting on Tuesday in the afternoon through the weekend.  So if you do not want to drive in the snow come and get it today.  But if you would like fresh snow wait until later in the week.  Please check back on the Great Outdoor Report and I will keep it updated.

I have just returned from the snow play areas on hwy #2.  There still is a few areas for sledding and playing in the snow.  There is some dirt showing and the snow is very spring like hard in the morning and softening as the day warms up.  Highs today should be in the mid 40’s road are open with no restrictions.  The weather service is calling for a series of storm starting on Tuesday of next week (2/15/11).  Stop by and we can get you a map of the snow play areas.

The storm from yesterday has moved out of the area.  It left about 1″ of new snow in the snow play areas.  So this is the best conditions we have seen since early this month.  The high temp should hit about 40 deg f today with clear sky and light wind.  There are no chain control on the roads and very little traffic.  So today would be a great day to go the the mountains.
